Recipe of the Month

Potato Leek Soup is a classic British recipe, which is served hot during the winter and cold during the summer.  Potato Leek Soup is also known as Vichyssoise, and is said to have originated in France, however there are many disputes on the origin.  Wherever it comes from, it is delicious, easy and cheap to make!  Enjoy this recipe based on a recipe from British Leeks...

Ingredients:
  • 8 leeks, trimmed, washed and finely chopped in a food processor
  • 2 sticks of celery, roughly chopped
  • 50g/2oz Butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large baking potato, peeled and diced
  • 1.5l/3 pt liters vegetable stock
  • ¼ pt/150ml single cream
  • Sea salt and ground black pepper
Preparation:
  • Gently sweat the shredded leek and celery in the butter and olive oil for 5 minutes to soften. Add the diced potato and stock. Bring to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 30 minutes.
  • Whiz in batches in a food processor with the single cream and seasonings to a coarse consistency. Top with strips of cooked leek or other garnish and serve with warm crusty bread or crackers.

Beth Webb Interiors

Beth Webb is a very talented Atlanta interior designer.  Her love for art and interior design began when she was in kindergarten, when her mother let her decorate her bedroom. Later, Beth took the Sotheby’s Works of Art course in London, worked in New York art galleries, and was a private art dealer before becoming an interior designer.  Her travel experience and appreciation of art helped shape her elegant designs.  Beth’s signature colors are neutrals, and her interiors can be described as timeless, clean and sophisticated, yet comfortable. Beth’s design can be seen in the June issue of House Beautiful, where she features our Belgium Style Painted Arm Chairs. Green Interiors

For the month of June, we have chosen to feature the color green in interiors.  Green can make such an impact in a room as it can be relaxing and calming.  Some interesting facts about green include the following...
  • Green is used worldwide to represent safety.
  • There is a superstition that sewing with green thread on the eve of a fashion show brings bad luck to the design house.
  • Green is the color of love associated with both Venus, the Roman goddess and Aphrodite, the Greek goddess.
  • Green was the favorite color of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
