Red Telephone Boxes

While Mary was in England, she collected a series of sketches illustrating British Icons from the Almanac Gallery.  Obviously loving all things British, we have enjoyed the sketches.  Therefore, each week I will share a sketch with you, and something you might not know about each icon-


The design of the Red Telephone Box was a result of a competition launched by the General Post Office.  London was in need of an acceptable phone booth design for the London Metropolitan Boroughs, who did not like the previous designs.  Sir Giles Gilbert Scott won the competition, and 70,000 Ted Telephone Booths were installed in 1936.
